Science and Technology - It appears that scientists had underestimated Aztecs mathematical abilities. Many had suggested a simple culture such as theirs could not have produced such complex and sophisticated architecture. Some even believed that Aliens at some point came down to earth and did this for the Aztecs.
Well, now it has been found that Aztecs indeed had devised a fairly sophisticated arithmetic system mainly made out of basic mathmatical operations; Addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
“They used the four mathematical operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. But in almost all of the early societies, they could do everything they needed to do, with just those four. They didn’t need square roots. They didn’t need trigonometry” one of the researchers said.
“The Aztecs used a system that included symbols of hearts, hands, arrows, bones, arms as alternatives to using fractions. An examination of these hieroglyphic records showed that the Aztecs used their own calculation system to figure out, for example, the area of a parcel of land. ”
