My New Gig

July 4th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Life - My so called part time contact position at Experian Consumer Info was turning out to be a full time job. I started out working three days a week I should say long three days. Then I was asked if I could work four days and then I was told that I should work five days. I thought I could do it considering I have a business to run but just a couple weeks working five days a week I realized that working a full time job is not for me.

My friend, Josh Nolan co-founded this IT company called Technability, which has already taken off so was able to offer me a part time jobs. I just finished my first two weeks as an ASP.NET web developer and I must admit there are so many things that I learned in this short period of time and there are so much more I need to learn in order to be able to keep up.

I admit having worked as a front-end web developer at Experian for over three years, and previously that working as classic ASP\PHP 4 developer, the entire .NET technology can get confusing at the beginning.

When Microsoft developed .NET their goal was to attract application developers to do web development and also to separate the web designers from web developers. That is why when looking at ASP .NET development, one needs to think beyond the traditional web development that was done on the fly and needs to more as a programmer. Today’s web developer should understand OOPS for code usability, separation of front end and back end code, frameworks and code and process separation, and new methods of software engineering can now be applied to web development as well.

So now I am an ASP .NET developer of course with so much more to learn, I am actually happy to have entered a new phase in my IT career.
